So.. let's say you go to Japan.. then you go to the drycleaner there.. and then you pick up your clothes.. and you get the correct clothes because they've been labeled (and because it's Japan where drycleaning doesn't get lost).  But the label must have been put on before the wash.. how is it that your name is still there?  Because of the very special paper that's been used - wood-pulp based, writeable, waterproof and tear-resistant.  These little memo pads are made out of that paper.  Drop them in the snow, take them surfing, throw them in the washing machine - they'll be fine and your notes will still be there (best not to use a water-based pen).
